I'm always tempted to purchase a dresser via Craigslist or at a garage sale and make it over, but just the thought of sanding, painting, and waiting for it to dry is enough to dim the lights on my frugal dreams. When I redid this bedroom last summer, I purchased the wood trunk at the foot of the bed from the Rose Bowl Flea Market to do exactly that. However, after sanding down the old yellowish-greenish paint for what seemed like hours in the summer heat, I gave up rather quickly and decided that I'd go with the au-naturale (a.k.a au-lazy) look instead. But after seeing all of these beauties floating around the internet, I'm not only thinking about hauling my wood trunk back into the garage to finish it, but also that my next DIY makeover needs to be a dresser. What do you think? Have you painted a dresser before? Thoughts?

I've painted a couple Rosebowl pieces myself. But you're so right it can be a daunting and exhausting project.
I've never done it, but these makeovers make it so tempting! I just love the ombre dresser!

Loving the first one & the ombre one! But you're right, "au-lazy" is just so very tempting...
I recently redid my childhood dresser.
It was a fun project - picking out colors, hardware etc. But it was a little time consuming. I worked on it over the weekends and I'd say it was about 3 weekends of work, maybe 4 by time it actually made it into my room.
But seeing it every day since ... happiness!
I think they're all fab! They do take time and a clear vision to decide what the piece is telling you it really wants.
Argh that pink campaign is one of my faves. We have one in our guest room and I have put off getting it painted for so long. I would love to revamp it with a fun color. And that last one is insane. We have a baroque style dresser similar to that in a baby blue lacquer and it's my favorite piece in the house!

I'm in the process of repainting a bookshelf for my son's room. My mom told me about this product called Liquid Sander. You soak a rag/towel/t-shirt with it, let it dry and about 10 minutes later it's ready to be painted. This is my first time using it, so I'm excited to see how my makeover goes, but my mom swears by this stuff and used it on all her furniture at her lake house. Score!

You are inspiring me!! It's almost bedtime and all I want to do is run to the nearest craft store and buy paint and handle knobs!! If I make it to the store next weekend I'll let you know :)
